Responsible for preparing and maintaining a constant supply of microbiological media.   Also  responsible for Water receiving and keeping an accurate inventory of prepared and purchased microbiology media and other supplies.  Provides support to the department by performing activities, which will assist Microbiologists in their work.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Monitor & maintain Microbiological Laboratory inventories by completing inventory checklist, monitoring stock levels & disposing of expired media inventory.
  2. Prepare, monitor and maintain Microbiological Media according to established procedures.
  3. Operate Laboratory autoclaves in a safe, compliant manner according to established Standard Operating Procedures.
  4. Log and/or receive in LIMS Raw Material, Semi-Finished, Finished, Stability and STR samples.
  5. Perform daily calibration of Laboratory instruments such as pH meter and balances according to the department’s established calibration program.
  6. Create daily water batches in SAP and Log water samples in LIMS and deliver to Micro & Chemistry as required.
  7. Perform routine tasks such as discarding of raw material samples and dosage samples in a safe and compliant manner.
  8. Coordinate and send samples for external testing as required.
  9. Order and manage Lab inventories through Ariba
  10. Maintain photocopier & other office supplies.
  11. Prepare log books.
  12. Work as an effective team member to meet departmental goals. Sharing knowledge with team members and across CLS.
  13. Maintains compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices and regulatory requirements.
  1. Performs all work in support of our Corporate Values
  2. Report OOS or out of trend results and under the direction of the Supervisor assists in the completion of lab investigations.
  3. Act as a back up to Lab Assistant as required.
  4. Maintains compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices and regulatory requirements.
  5. Responsible and accountable for compliance with all aspects of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canadian Biosafety Guidelines as well as Apotex’s Health and Safety policies, and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
  6.  Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Community College education in a recognized educational institution in Microbiology, Chemistry or a related field
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Chemistry or Microbiology Lab Experience preferred
    • Good verbal and written English communication skills
    • Knowledge and understanding of GMP/GLP as applied to a laboratory setting
  • Problem solving abilities and ability to share knowledge with team members
    • Working and/or theoretical knowledge of automated laboratory instrumentation such as autoclave
    • Proven organization and time management skills, as demonstrated through previous work and/or educational experience.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office Programs
